This Nintendo Switch 2 has gotten its premiere firmware update, version 21.0.0, and while there isn't anything completely game-changing, there are plenty of quality of life enhancements to be excited about.

Fresh Software Symbols Offer Easy Recognition

Among the standout additions features fresh symbols that appear above a game card, identifying whether that software is an original Nintendo Switch version, Switch 2, or downloadable copy.

Enhanced User Discovery and In-Game Communication Features

When locating players to add as a friend, the Find Players You've Interacted With setting under Connect with Others now covers individuals you've chatted with in your friends’ GameChat rooms.

With respect to GameChat, multiple enhancements were introduced:

  • The title does not put itself to sleep while chatting.
  • A setting to deactivate “Chat Audio Panning” is introduced.
  • Voice can continue if the device goes from TV mode to on-the-go or flat mode, particularly if this change results in the internet switching from a ethernet connection to a untethered one.

Simplified Installs and Controller Audio Modes

While acquiring various titles concurrently, you can now cancel them all with a single tap.

Regarding Switch 2 Pro gamepad users, a fresh low-latency sound setting was included, allowing you to choose between “Stable” or “Low Latency” options.

Faster Audio will reduce audio latency when compared to “Stable” but may be more prone to issues in certain untethered setups.

Digital Title Content Acquisition Upgrade

Another significant change enables you to download information for a downloadable software even if the “Use Online License” option is deactivated.

This option is available in the Settings of a virtual game card when opened via Digital Titles from the main screen.

  • Device features: Power management offers “Stop Charging Around 80-90%” in place of the former “Stop Charging Around 90%” option.
  • Locale support: Thai and Poland's language were added to the selection of offered options, although they are only available in software that include the corresponding language.
  • System-wide reliability upgrades to improve the user's experience.
