American firm Waymo has revealed that its autonomous vehicles will be available for hire on London's roads beginning next year.
UK Capital Named as Pioneering European City for Self-Driving Ride-Hailing.
London will be established as the inaugural European city to launch an driverless taxi service, similar to those already in use in San Francisco and several American locations utilizing Waymo's advanced platform.
Preliminary Operations to Commence with Trained Operators.
Waymo stated that its cars are currently traveling to London and will begin operating on the city's public roads in the next few weeks with safety drivers supervising the vehicles.
The company – originally formed as a derivative from the tech giant's autonomous vehicle project and belonging to the larger corporate umbrella – stated it would expand operations and partner with the UK transport authorities and Transport for London to acquire the essential approvals to deliver fully autonomous services by 2026.
Expanding Involvement in Self-Driving Mobility Across London.
Further companies, including Uber and the British technology firm Wayve, have also announced their own plans to test autonomous cabs in the capital next year.
This is in response to the government officials confirming it would accelerate guidelines allowing real-world tests to take place before legislation allowing autonomous cars is enacted in full.

Comprehensive Introduction Expected After New Legislation Is Enforced.
A fuller introduction of driverless cabs is expected in the UK after the related legislation is fully implemented in the latter part of 2027.

Waymo currently has links to Britain after establishing its pioneering European engineering hub in Oxford in 2019.
The company is furthermore starting services in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover EVs, marking its only other current project outside the US.

Waymo introduced its autonomous vehicles in 2020 and now claims it has transported over ten million passengers in the United States.
Despite some alarming occurrences, Waymo indicated that statistics showed that vehicles controlled by humans were linked to crashes that injured pedestrians at a much higher rate than its driverless vehicles.
